Also known as bat ears

This is due to a defect in the way the cartilage of the ears has formed leading to the ears to protrude. It may run in families or may occur for no obvious reason. Children can get teased about them – this being a common reason for parents seeking medical attention. Surgery to correct this is called a pinnaplasty where the ears are pinned back. This is usually done at about age five to prevent teasing when the child starts school. If your child has this condition, Mr Olarinde will discuss all aspects of surgery with you and your child.
