Mr. Olarinde is an Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgeon based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and Chesterfield, North Derbyshire.

He was born and raised in north London and graduated from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria with clinical training at the University College Hospital. Wale trained in general surgery in the West Midlands before training in ENT/head and neck surgery in Essex, Swindon, Bedford and finally at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital in London, culminating in the award of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

He started his specialist registrar training in ENT surgery in Swansea and Cardiff in Wales, after which he carried out pioneering research at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Mr. Olarinde’s research work in Leicester involved investigating the changes in nasal airways when neonates breathe. This work has been published in peer-reviewed journals. He moved to South Yorkshire for his higher surgical training at:

  • Sheffield Children’s Hospital
  • Royal Hallamshire Hospital
  • Doncaster Royal Infirmary and
  • Rotherham General Hospital

    Wale Olarinde - Consultant ENT

    At the end of his higher surgical training, he was admitted to the Specialist Register (General Medical Council – number 4364391) for Otolaryngology after passing the speciality intercollegiate examination. He underwent further advanced training in Sheffield in head and neck cancer surgery. He has also understudied Professor Petra Ambrosch in Kiel, Germany, in the use of lasers for resection of head and neck cancers.

    Mr. Olarinde was appointed to a substantive consultant post at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, Chesterfield in 2010 after a brief stint as a locum consultant at Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham. He is also an honorary senior clinical lecturer within the academic unit of medical education at the University of Sheffield.

    His practice is a general ear, nose and throat practice with an interest in head and neck surgery (cancer and benign disease). His practice involves managing a wide range of ear, nose and throat conditions.

    Mr. Olarinde works with a well-integrated team that delivers all aspects of care for head and neck cancer patients from North Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire. His team won the team award for clinical effectiveness at the 2011 Chesterfield Royal Hospital Stars Award. He is a core member of the North Trent Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team that discusses the management of all head and neck cancers in the region. He is also a core member of the north Trent thyroid multidisciplinary team that discusses the diagnosis and management of all thyroid cancers in the region

    He has an interest in medical education and is a honorary senior lecturer and examiner to the medical school of the University of Sheffield. Mr Olarinde is also a member of the court of examiners to the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
